BPDM 2014 – Broadening Participation in Data Mining

Date/Time: Aug. 23 & 24, 8 am – 5 pm
Location: Etsy Labs – 8/23, Bloomberg – 8/24

Background

The primary aim of the Broadening Participation in Data Mining (BPDM) program is to significantly broaden diversity in Data Mining and increase the impact of the field worldwide. Since 2012, we have done so by increasing mentorship and professional development of underrepresented groups in Data Mining, while also enriching their technical aptitude and exposure in the field. The program funds women, minorities, students with disabilities, and students from underrepresented countries in Data Mining to attend all BPDM and KDD activities. Scholarship applications are open until June 15, 2014, apply at http://www.dataminingshop.com/2014/applicantLogin.php.

BPDM 2014

This year’s program will span two days and include keynotes, panels, technical tutorials, and mentoring activities. Attendance is open and encouraged to all KDD conference participants on Sunday 8/24. Attendance is also open on Saturday 8/23, however, due to mentoring pairings, attendance should first be requested via email. If you’d like to attend, please send your name, title, institution/organization, research interests, and indicate whether you would consider yourself a mentee or mentor to bpdmprogram@gmail.com.
